In MLS regular-season action, Inter Miami ended in a 1-1 draw with Toronto FC on Saturday at BMO Field. With Lionel Messi on the field, Miami aimed to continue their three-game winning streak and move closer to the top of the Western Conference, seeking a second consecutive Supporters’ Shield.

Following a strong victory against New York City FC, where Messi scored twice and assisted once, Javier Mascherano’s team went to Canada looking to maintain their performance. They took the lead before halftime.

Just before halftime, Jordi Alba crossed the ball from the left to Tadeo Allende, who managed to beat his defender and scored to put Miami up 1-0. In the second half, Toronto FC equalized with a goal from Djordje Mihailovic, resulting in a 1-1 draw.

This result is a setback for Inter Miami, who were aiming for a second Supporters’ Shield. They needed to win all their remaining matches to achieve this goal.

Miami sits third in the Western Conference with 56 points. Philadelphia Union currently leads with 60 points and a game in hand, meaning Miami does not control their own fate in the Supporters’ Shield race anymore.

What’s next for Inter Miami?

Inter Miami is going through a tough seven-game stretch, winning three out of five matches, while also losing one and drawing another. Up next, they will play back-to-back home games against the Chicago Fire and New England Revolution at Chase Stadium to complete this challenging period.

The regular season will wrap up with two matches: hosting Atlanta United on October 11 and then playing at Nashville on October 18. Miami’s main goal remains to capture the Supporters’ Shield, but if that becomes unattainable, they will focus on finishing as high as possible in the standings for home-field advantage in the playoffs.
