Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami could lose another teammate ahead of teh MLS deadline, according to reports.
Inter Miami’s squad has undergone several changes, with departures like Federico Redondo and new arrivals such as Rodrigo De Paul, their latest signing. Now, Lionel Messi could be set to lose another teammate, as Honduran midfielder David Ruiz is being linked with a potential move during this transfer window.
According to new reports, Inter Miami look to sort out his future before the MLS transfer window closes on August 21. Per Deporte Total, at least three MLS teams have been inquiring about the 22-year-old player.
Inter Miami extended Ruiz’s contract earlier this year, locking him in through 2028 with an option for 2029. For now, the plan is to loan him out for the rest of the 2025 season with a purchase option included, while Miami retains a percentage of his rights for any future transfer.
Ruiz, once seen as a rising piece of Miami’s midfield, has been sidelined for months due to a muscle injury. While he’s now fully recovered, his action has been limited to MLS Next Pro games with Inter Miami II.

Head coach Javier Mascherano has praised Ruiz as an important part of the squad but hasn’t found space for him in the regular rotation. A move would benefit both sides. Inter Miami would free up valuable salary-cap space to chase reinforcements at center back and striker, while Ruiz would have the chance to prove himself in another team.
Miami’s active transfer window
Inter Miami have been busy in the 2025 summer transfer window, with the signing of Rodrigo De Paul standing out as one of their strongest moves this season. At the same time, Federico Redondo has departed, joining Spanish side Elche CF on a permanent deal.
Reports indicate the transfer includes 50% of Redondo’s economic rights, with a fee of $2.5 million. While his departure represents a potential setback, Messi and his teammates have managed to bounce back from an early-season slump.
Miami’s recent 3-1 victory over LA Galaxy, in which Messi scored another goal, lifted them to fifth place in the Eastern Conference, just a week after they had slipped to sixth following a 4-1 defeat to Orlando.
The goal marked Messi’s 19th of the season, extending his lead atop the MLS scoring charts and securing a much-needed win for Miami. With three games in hand, the club could climb all the way to the top if they manage to take maximum points.
