Inter Miami faced a tough loss in the 2025 Leagues Cup final, losing 3-0 to the Seattle Sounders. This performance was disappointing, especially for a team featuring Lionel Messi. Following the match, there were immediate concerns about the team’s future, particularly with the potential departure of a key player.

The potential transfer of Benjamin Cremaschi to Parma in Italy had been a concern even before the final. This move would leave Inter Miami without one of its promising young talents during an important phase of the season. The 20-year-old midfielder was set to join the Italian club on loan, with an option to buy, as noted by transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio.

At the time of the final, the transfer had not been officially announced, but Cremaschi played in the match against the Sounders. Reports suggested that the deal was completed just hours before the kickoff, marking a significant milestone in Cremaschi’s career and highlighting both ambition and issues within the Miami team.

The arrangement between Inter Miami and Parma allowed for a season-long loan, with a purchase option of €4.5 million ($5.26 million). Cremaschi was expected to undergo medical tests in the U.S. before moving to Emilia-Romagna for his first experience in European football.

Cremaschi’s time at Inter Miami

Cremaschi’s exit occurred during a crucial period in Inter Miami’s recent history. This season, he played in 29 matches across the MLS, the Leagues Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup, totaling 105 official games for the club, scoring eight goals and providing nine assists. He participated in 55 of those games alongside Lionel Messi, creating a solid partnership in midfield.

Why Parma was interested in Cremaschi

Cremaschi, developed through Miami’s academy, proved to be a versatile midfielder capable of playing on both sides, providing balance beside experienced players like Sergio Busquets. His adaptability and experience with top players made him an attractive option for Parma, which has faced challenges early in its Serie A season and hoped for improvements with Cremaschi’s addition.

Tension behind the scenes

In the weeks leading up to his transfer, Cremaschi expressed frustration about limited playing time and frequent position changes. His versatility was often used to fill in for injured or suspended players, rather than allowing him to develop a consistent role. This uncertainty grew to be a source of dissatisfaction for him.

“It frustrates me. I want to play, that’s what matters most to me. I want to compete at the highest level, and that only comes with minutes,” Cremaschi stated in an interview. “I haven’t played much recently, and I don’t think it’s because of my performance. I feel good, so it must be for other reasons.”

“Sometimes I go into matches without knowing where I’ll play,” he added. This year we’ve had several injuries and suspensions, and I’ve been moved around to different roles. It’s tough to prepare mentally when you don’t know your position, and it takes a toll.”

Amid these circumstances, Cremaschi’s departure represents a significant loss for Inter Miami, but also a chance for him to grow in his career. For Parma, which is rebuilding both its sporting and organizational structure, adding Cremaschi offers a valuable asset with international potential.
