Inter Miami is at a critical point in the MLS season, competing for a top position in a closely matched table. To enhance their roster and support Lionel Messi, Inter Miami is looking to sign a former Real Madrid player.
Fabrizio Romano reports that the MLS club is actively pursuing a deal. “Inter Miami in talks for surprise move to sign Sergio Reguilon! Negotiations well underway to join MLS side on free transfer after leaving Spurs in July. Reguilon is expected to accept as he sees Inter Miami as the best option despite multiple proposals,” Romano stated.
Reguilon would come to Inter Miami as a free agent after leaving Tottenham, where he has experienced a decline in form in recent seasons. Once considered a promising left-back for Spain, his recent performances have faced criticism for lack of consistency.
The defender had his best moments during his early time at Tottenham, with notable flashes at Real Madrid, especially during his loan at Sevilla, where he was important in their UEFA Europa League victory. Reguilon was once seen as a potential star after progressing through Madrid’s youth system, but his career path has not met those expectations.
Reguilon’s Journey
Sergio Reguilon started his career at Real Madrid’s academy, “La Fabrica,” as a left-back. He made his first-team debut in 2018 under Santiago Solari, showcasing his energy and attacking style. However, fierce competition for the left-back position hindered his regular starting role at Madrid.
His breakthrough came during a loan at Sevilla in the 2019-20 season under Julen Lopetegui. Reguilon excelled in La Liga, noted for his speed and offensive contributions. His performances were key to Sevilla winning the UEFA Europa League, boosting his status among leading European clubs.
This success led to a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur in 2020, where Reguilon had a mixed tenure. While he showed flashes of his talent with his energy and dual-role play, management changes and inconsistency limited his overall impact. Despite some bright spots, he did not meet the expectations many had when he arrived in England.
Recently, Reguilon became a frequent loanee, spending time at Atletico Madrid, Manchester United, and Brentford. While his form has fluctuated, his experience in both La Liga and the Premier League keeps him as a valuable asset for teams seeking depth at left-back — and now Inter Miami might be his next destination.
