Lionel Scaloni on Meeting Lionel Messi in Argentina
In an interview with AFA Estudio, Lionel Scaloni shared that he and Lionel Messi met for coffee while both were in Argentina during the MLS offseason.
Scaloni praised Messi’s leadership and attitude, calling him a role model for the team. He stated that the meeting reinforced his belief that Messi’s competitive spirit remains strong.
“It was informal. We had coffee. Those who know him understand that he’ll never relax. He’s a natural competitor. He always wants to be involved, which is important for his teammates,” said Scaloni.
“It’s a legacy he’ll leave behind. Future players need to take up that approach. He’s always been the same. He’s still hungry, and that sets him apart.”
Messi’s Influence on Argentina’s Next Generation
Lionel Scaloni also pointed out Messi’s significant impact on younger players in Argentina. “When the captain acts this way, everyone else follows. That’s what defines this team,” he mentioned.
Although Scaloni did not confirm Messi’s participation in the 2026 World Cup, his remarks suggest the possibility remains open for the captain to play a role.
