Liverpool manager Arne Slot believes his team can still achieve something significant this season, despite a challenging start.
The team is currently in sixth place in the Premier League, 14 points behind leaders Arsenal, making it unlikely they will reclaim the title.
They have not won any of their last five league matches but remain in the UEFA Champions League and the FA Cup.
Liverpool can secure a top-eight finish and a place in the Champions League round of 16 by defeating Qarabag on Wednesday.
During his pre-match press conference, Slot emphasized the need for the team to improve both their finishing in attack and their defense as they enter the final months of the season.
Arne Slot: Liverpool can still do ‘very special things this season’
“It’s going to be very hard to ignore outside opinions given our league position,” he stated.
“It’s tough to silence the critics when you’re not competing for the title.
“Between the boxes, we are playing well. We often find ourselves in good positions, as we did against Bournemouth.
“We need to convert those promising situations into goals and be more clinical.
“Opponents only need a few chances to create scoring opportunities. We must address this imbalance.
“If we can improve at both ends, we can achieve remarkable things this season. A single improvement might lead to an acceptable outcome, but without any improvements, we’ll hear a lot of noise.”
