Former France World Cup winner Christophe Dugarry criticized Liverpool for paying €70 million to sign Jeremy Jacquet.
Liverpool finalized the deal for the 20-year-old center-back on transfer deadline day. Jacquet will move from Rennes to Liverpool in the summer.
The Premier League champions will pay an initial fee of €60 million (£51.7 million) for Jacquet, with an additional €10 million (£8.6 million) in potential add-ons.
This transfer fee is significant for a player who has only made 29 Ligue 1 starts so far. Chelsea also showed interest in Jacquet but did not meet the asking price.
Dugarry, who played in the Premier League for Birmingham City, commended Rennes for securing such a high fee for Jacquet and stated there is ‘no justification’ for the amount paid.

“When you have buyers like that… well done to Rennes,” Dugarry told RMC Radio. “They managed to find a buyer like Liverpool that was willing to pay €70 million. There’s no justification for it.”
