Liverpool manager Arne Slot stated that his team “ran out of energy” during their 3-2 loss against Bournemouth on Saturday evening.
The Reds rallied from two goals down to level the score late in the second half, but a last-minute goal by Amine Adli sealed the win for Bournemouth at Dean Court.
Slot pointed to the short turnaround from their midweek UEFA Champions League match against Marseille as a key factor in the defeat.
Liverpool ‘ran out of energy’ as Bournemouth snatch late win
“It’s frustrating,” the Dutchman remarked to Sky Sports after the game. “Conceding a goal is always tough, especially with no time left to respond,” he added in the post-match press conference.
“It’s fair to say they could have scored the 3-2 a bit earlier. A few of our players were out of energy, and I can’t blame them for that.
“Just two days ago, we played an away game in Europe. We are the only Champions League team with just two days in between matches.
“After playing away, facing another away game against one of the most exhausting teams is tough. It shouldn’t have come down to the last moments; that’s more difficult.
“Aside from that, we dominated the rest of the game.”
This loss marked Liverpool’s first defeat since late November and their first loss to Bournemouth since March 2023.
