Liverpool forward Alexander Isak has had surgery on his ankle after breaking his leg, the club announced.
The Swedish player was injured during Liverpool’s match against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, where he scored the first goal before leaving the field in the 60th minute.
He was injured following a strong tackle from Micky van de Ven, immediately signaling for help. The 26-year-old received treatment on the field before being substituted for Jeremie Frimpong.
Hugo Ekitike later scored to extend Liverpool’s lead, and despite Richarlison scoring for Spurs, Liverpool secured a 2-1 away victory.

On Monday evening, Liverpool confirmed that Isak “successfully underwent surgery for the injury he suffered on Saturday.”
A statement on the club’s website stated: “After a diagnosis, an operation was performed today for an ankle injury that involved a fibula fracture.”
“Isak will continue his recovery at the AXA Training Centre, but no timeline for his return has been set.”
