Lucas Paquetá Speaks Out Following Red Card Controversy Against Liverpool

Lucas Paquetá has apologized for his red card during the match against Liverpool on Sunday, while also sending a strong message to the English Football Association. The West Ham midfielder received two yellow cards in quick succession for protesting to the referee. He highlighted that he has just cleared his name from match-fixing allegations that have loomed over him for nearly two years. On X, the Brazilian criticized the psychological impact of this issue: “It’s absurd to see my life and career affected for two years without any psychological support from the Federation… This ridiculous behavior may reflect everything I’ve had to endure. I’m sorry if I’m not perfect.”

In the same message, Paquetá expressed regret to West Ham, acknowledging that his actions hurt the team, which lost 2-0 at Anfield. “I understand that I’m now seen as the villain… This doesn’t justify my red card, and I apologize to the supporters and my teammates,” he wrote. Nuno Espírito Santo, his coach, declined to comment immediately, stating he wanted to speak with his player first before making any statements.
