In an interview with Movistar+, Luis Díaz shared his reasons for joining Bayern Munich over Barcelona, despite interest from the Spanish club. The Colombian winger had a notable season with Liverpool, scoring 17 goals and winning the Premier League. He felt it was time to seek a new challenge and more consistency.
“There were talks (with Barcelona), as well as with other teams. I’m at peace with this decision. I chose based on what’s best for my future, and I’ve joined a great club,” he said after Bayern’s Champions League victory over Chelsea.
Barcelona looked into signing him, but their financial issues made it difficult. Liverpool’s asking price of around 80 million euros put them at a disadvantage. Bayern made a competitive offer of about 75 million and assured Díaz a significant role under new coach Vincent Kompany.
Since joining, the 27-year-old has netted four goals in six competitive matches, quickly becoming a key player in Bayern’s lineup. He also considered the better chance of consistent playing time in Germany compared to the competition at Barcelona with Raphinha and Lamine Yamal.
Díaz expressed his gratitude for the support he has received since arriving in Munich. “I’m really pleased with the win; it met our expectations. A strong start is crucial for the team. Colombians have always backed me—I saw national flags and my jersey. I’m very grateful for all that support and thrilled to be at this great club,” he said.
