Since Luis Enrique took over at Paris Saint-Germain, he has emphasized a crucial trait among several players: the ability to play in multiple positions. Ousmane Dembélé has been shifted to a center-forward role, along with Kang-in Lee and Senny Mayulu. Furthermore, Warren Zaïre-Emery and João Neves occasionally step in as right-backs. For Luis Enrique, this adaptability is a significant advantage for his squad.
“I have never sought this as a coach. I enjoy players who are different from me. After coaching at a high level for 15 years, we need to look forward. The mobility and versatility of players to occupy different positions is crucial. Every time we’ve faced injuries, there are players who can positively fill various roles. This is very important for me as a coach at Paris; I’ve been able to appreciate this quality in most of our players. (…) It’s essential to push players out of their comfort zones. When you have the mentality to be an important player for the team and open your mind, it becomes incredibly rewarding to know you can assist the team in any position. We exemplify a team that continually changes positions during matches,” the Spaniard shared in a press conference ahead of the match against Lorient for the 10th round of Ligue 1.
