Athletic Bilbao stands out in modern football due to its unique policy that requires players to be from or trained in the Basque Country. This approach has garnered praise from Luis Enrique, the Spanish coach of PSG, who is set to face the Basque team on Wednesday evening for the 6th round of the Champions League. In a press conference, Luis Enrique expressed his admiration for Athletic Bilbao.
“What Athletic Bilbao represents in football is beautiful. I love their character. They are competing in the Champions League, which means a lot. I like the red and white colors, just like Gijon. It’s wonderful to visit San Mamés. I played in the old San Mamés, and I have experience as a coach,” stated the Spanish coach.
