Hector Herrera, a two-time MLS All-Star midfielder, has rejoined the Houston Dynamo as of Wednesday.

After a year with Liga MX team Toluca, the 35-year-old Mexican player signed with Houston for the 2026 MLS season, with an option to extend through June 2027.

During his previous time with the Dynamo from 2022-2024, Herrera scored eight goals and recorded 22 assists in 82 matches across all competitions. He was an All-Star in 2023 and 2024 and was named to the MLS Best XI in 2023, leading Houston to the U.S. Open Cup title.

“We are excited to welcome Hector back to Houston,” said Pat Onstad, the club’s president of soccer. “He is a respected leader on and off the field, and his influence helped change the club’s course during his first term, leading to our fourth trophy in 2023 and a point record in 2024.

“His return shows a commitment to build on our past success. While his role may change, Hector’s leadership and competitive spirit will raise our club’s standards. He has a strong connection to the city and knows how to bring trophies back to Houston.”

Besides his experiences in the U.S. and Mexico, Herrera has played for Spain’s Atletico Madrid and Portugal’s FC Porto. He has earned 105 international caps and was part of the Mexican team that won the Olympic gold medal in 2012.

“We are all excited that Hector is back with the Dynamo for the 2026 season,” said head coach Ben Olsen. “This excitement comes with a commitment to compete and strive for every result, aiming to bring another trophy to Houston.
