Harry Maguire has confirmed that he is in discussions with Manchester United regarding a contract extension, expressing his belief that he still has an important role to fulfill at the club.
The 33-year-old’s current contract is set to end this summer, but negotiations for an extension are underway. Maguire has been instrumental in the team’s recent improvement under Michael Carrick, helping Manchester United rise to Champions League contention.
His strong performance has led to his return to the England squad after an 18-month break, as the team prepares to meet Uruguay and Japan this month.
Speaking about his future with the club, Maguire expressed optimism that a deal will be finalized.
“I think there’s been talks,” he stated. “I believe we’ll come to an agreement that will benefit both the club and me.
“The specifics will come to light in the coming weeks. I’m confident it will be resolved sooner rather than later, regardless of whether I stay or leave. But I think it should be sorted out soon.
I have a deep love for this club. However, it has to be the right decision for both me and the club.
“I don’t want to stay just for nostalgia. I want to remain because I am committed, and the club believes I can still contribute significantly.
“If that’s the case, I’m sure we’ll sit down and come to an agreement.”
