Michael Carrick highlights Harry Maguire’s valuable experience for Man Utd as questions arise about the defender’s future at Old Trafford.
The England player, who will be 33 next week, may leave the club this summer as his contract nears its end.
Maguire’s time at United has had ups and downs since his £80 million transfer from Leicester City in 2019, but he has played a crucial part in the team’s defense over the past three years.
“Harry is an impressive character,” Carrick commented before the match against Crystal Palace. “He’s had a successful career, and there’s hopefully more to come. His journey here has shown his qualities.
“We know his abilities and what he can achieve. He performed really well the other night, and his experience and character made a difference. He’s important for our team.”
The interim head coach explained: “In a player’s career, there’s a time when everything is new, and they play without fear. When you reach your peak, you have your highs and lows. As you approach the end of your career, your experiences should enhance your game, and Harry’s recent performances show that.”
Carrick: ‘Maguire’s experience is invaluable’
Regarding Maguire’s contract status, Carrick said: “In our squad, we need a mix of young talents and experienced players. Finding the right balance is crucial.
“It’s difficult to assess how valuable that experience can be. Harry has learned a lot during his time with this club. Considering his potential departure, we need to understand the implications.”
