Manchester City has issued a strong condemnation of the racist abuse aimed at players Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guéhi following the team’s 3-3 draw against Everton on Monday night at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
During the match, Semenyo faced racist insults, while Guéhi received a wave of abusive and discriminatory messages on social media after the conclusion of the game.
In an official statement released on Monday, Manchester City reiterated their commitment to combating all forms of discrimination. The club praised the prompt actions taken by Everton and law enforcement to identify the individual responsible for the abuse.
“Manchester City strongly condemns the racist abuse directed towards Antoine Semenyo at yesterday’s match.
We welcome the swift action taken by Everton and the police to identify the individual responsible.
We are also incredibly disappointed to hear that Marc Guéhi was subject to a series of vile racist social media posts last night.
We will continue to offer our full support to both Antoine and Marc and never accept discrimination of any kind in our game.”
