Manchester City defender John Stones has admitted that he considered retiring from football. Last season was challenging for Stones due to a series of injuries. The defender made only 11 appearances in the Premier League last season.
“Last season was so tough for me that I thought about retiring. I was tired of being a professional, doing everything right, and then getting injured again and having no answers. It was psychologically difficult.”
“When an injury happens again, it would be easier to say, ‘Well, I didn’t do A, B, or C, so that’s why it happened.’ But when you do everything correctly and still get a new injury, it’s a real mental test. I hope I never go back to that state,” Stones told the BBC.
