Harry Maguire is nearing the end of his contract with Manchester United, and is set to leave Old Trafford at the season’s conclusion.
Although United have the option to extend his contract by another year, discussions on this matter have not yet started.
With INEOS aiming to reduce wage costs at the club, Maguire’s future depends on whether he is willing to accept a salary cut.
In anticipation of his departure, CaughtOffside reports that United have identified four potential defenders, with one option being a long-term target.
In the summer of 2024, Manchester United is again focusing on Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, reigniting their interest with each transfer window.
The 23-year-old is being considered by Ruben Amorim as a possible replacement for Maguire.
Alongside Branthwaite, Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace is also under consideration.
Guehi has gained attention following his strong performances at Selhurst Park, although a move to Liverpool fell through just before the transfer deadline this summer.
Both defenders align with Amorim’s goal of making an immediate impact while also being young enough for future development.
However, Ruben Amorim has emphasized the importance of not rushing into signings to fill gaps in the squad.
His concerns mainly address the ongoing injuries in the midfield at Old Trafford, particularly with Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes unavailable, but the principle remains relevant across the team.
