Manchester United has reportedly reached an agreement with Michael Carrick to become the interim head coach of the club.

The team has been looking for a replacement after Ruben Amorim’s departure last week.

Amorim was let go following comments he made after a 1-1 draw with Leeds United, amid tensions with the club’s management.

Although Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was also considered for the position, Carrick has become the preferred choice after discussions with both candidates in recent days.

The Athletic states that an announcement is expected “soon,” as a deal, including Carrick’s coaching staff, has been agreed “in principle.” Lawyers are finalizing the contract details.

Negotiations continued late into Monday, as reported by Sky Sports, who noted that “all outstanding issues were resolved” during that time.

The former United midfielder is anticipated to sign the paperwork later on Tuesday afternoon and has arrived at Carrington training ground to meet with director of football Jason Wilcox.

Carrick is expected to lead the team during this weekend’s match against Manchester City, with the Manchester Derby scheduled for Saturday afternoon at Old Trafford.
