Manchester City has agreed to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace for around £20m.
The England international has settled on personal terms and will sign a long-term contract with City.
Palace has agreed to the fee for Guehi, whose contract was set to expire this summer.
Arsenal, Liverpool, and Bayern Munich had shown interest in signing him for free this summer, but City has finalized the deal in January.
Pep Guardiola’s interest in Guehi comes as City deals with a number of defensive injuries. Ruben Dias, Josko Gvardiol, and John Stones are all unavailable. In the previous match against Newcastle, Max Alleyne, who returned on loan, played alongside 21-year-old Abdukodir Khusanov.
John Stones’ contract is also due to expire in 2026, and there are concerns regarding an extension due to his past fitness issues.
