Manchester United is set to part ways with several players at the end of the season during another challenging time for the club.
Following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim, United is searching for a new caretaker manager to finish the season.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick are potential candidates for the role, but either could leave when a permanent manager is appointed in the summer.
A change in management typically signals a new strategy for the squad, raising questions about players whose contracts are nearing expiration.
This affects Casemiro, Harry Maguire, Tom Heaton, Tyrell Malacia, and Jadon Sancho.
In addition to these five players, a senior member of staff will also be leaving in the summer.
Manchester United announced on their official website that the CEO of the club’s Foundation will depart in July.
The club stated: “John Shiels, CEO of Manchester United Foundation, will retire at the end of the season.”
The statement further noted: “Over the past 18 years, John has created an operational model targeting the most disadvantaged areas in Greater Manchester, helping the Foundation grow into one of the largest football club charities in the UK, making a significant impact on youth across the North West.
“The Foundation engages over 42,000 young people across Greater Manchester and other parts of the UK through football, education, and personal development programs.”
“In 2022, John received an MBE for his work with young people and was honored with a doctorate from Ulster University for his contributions to education, sport, and community engagement.”
Reflecting on his departure, John Shiels said: “As I step down from my role at Manchester United Foundation, I feel a deep sense of gratitude and pride for my time here.
“I am thankful to everyone who supported and inspired me, especially the fantastic Foundation team, who work tirelessly for our local community.
“For now, it’s business as usual, and I leave with confidence that the charity will continue to thrive, especially when young people need support the most.
“After two decades with the club I cherish, I look forward to new opportunities and spending time with family abroad.”
