Manchester United are tempting Fermin Lopez to leave Barcelona, having lost Hansi Flick’s trust.

Manchester United is seriously considering strengthening its midfield. After releasing Christian Eriksen for free at the end of June, the Red Devils are now reportedly preparing a fantastic offer for young Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez.

A report from Spanish media outlet Sport claims the Red Devils are ready to tempt Fermin with a salary increase double what he received at Camp Nou. The offer, described as “astronomical,” has fueled speculation of a move to the Premier League.

“Eriksen’s departure and Casemiro’s inconsistent performances have prompted United to look for fresh talent in midfield. Fermin Lopez’s name has emerged, especially given his impressive performances for the Blaugrana last season,” the outlet wrote.

Despite still being 22 years old, Fermin has already made 46 appearances for Barcelona across all competitions in the 2024/25 season. He has scored eight goals and provided ten assists, including one goal and four assists in the Champions League.

Long Under the Radar

Fermin isn’t a new name on United’s radar. The young midfielder has been on the radar since the January transfer window. Now, with the summer window entering a crucial phase, the Red Devils are reportedly prepared to pay over 70 million euros (£61 million) to secure his services.

Ruben Amorim has made signing a new midfielder a priority alongside a striker. According to European transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, United are seriously considering signing Fermin, especially if a good opportunity arises.

United aren’t the only interested parties. The Saudi Arabian club is also reportedly monitoring the player’s situation, as is Chelsea. However, so far, United are considered the most aggressive club in negotiations.

The biggest obstacle, however, comes from Fermin’s status as a player who is still playing for a club that will compete in the Champions League, while Manchester United will be absent from European competition next season. This could certainly be a significant consideration for the player.

Guaranteed Core Position Becomes an Attraction

One way the Red Devils are tempting Fermin is by promising him a key role in the squad. Ruben Amorim is said to be ready to provide a strategic role for the Spanish midfielder, known for his strong work ethic and exceptional range.

With his energetic playing style and ability to create chances from the back line, Fermin is believed to be well-suited to the fast-paced atmosphere of the Premier League. He could be an ideal partner for Kobbie Mainoo in United’s future midfield.

Barcelona Hard to Refuse

Although new Barcelona coach Hansi Flick is keen to keep Fermin, Sport reports that a lucrative offer from England could sway his resolve. Fermin isn’t guaranteed a starting spot, and the Catalan club’s financial situation, which hasn’t fully recovered, makes any significant offer difficult to reject.

Fermin’s performances last season were undeniable. Six goals and five assists in La Liga, one goal and four assists in the Champions League, and consistent contributions in the Copa del Rey demonstrated his maturity despite his youth.

Since breaking into Barcelona’s first team, Fermin has made 88 appearances, scoring 19 goals and providing 11 assists. Figures that demonstrate consistency and maturity at the age of just 23.

The Final Riddle of the Exchange

Now the ball is in the court of Barcelona and Fermin Lopez himself. Will he choose to stay and compete at Camp Nou, or accept a new challenge as the backbone of Manchester United’s revival project with Amorim?

With the offer of a substantial salary and guaranteed playing time, the lure of Old Trafford is real. However, the final decision remains a mystery until the transfer window actually closes.

The Fermin Lopez to United scenario is still evolving. While the financial lure and a starring role are advantages for the Red Devils, his status as a Barcelona player and the prospect of Champions League football present a dilemma.

If Fermin is secured, it could be one of the best signings of the summer and a strong signal that Ruben Amorim’s men are piecing together the puzzle for a new era for the Red Devils.
