Manchester United has stopped a possible exit for Joshua Zirkzee following the firing of Ruben Amorim as head coach.
Zirkzee was expected to leave the club this month due to limited first-team opportunities.
The Dutch player has only started four games in the Premier League this season and was considering a January move to enhance his chances of making the Netherlands’ World Cup squad.
Roma expressed interest in bringing Zirkzee back to Serie A. He was named Italy’s Young Player of the Season during his last year with Bologna before joining Manchester in 2024.
His experience in the Premier League has been tough, scoring just five goals in 46 league matches for Manchester United. The arrivals of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko this summer have further limited his playing time.
However, Roma’s sporting director Ricky Massara stated that United has halted all transfer discussions between the teams after the managerial change. The aim is for any new coach to evaluate the squad before making decisions on player sales.
“Manchester United have closed all doors now with the managerial change,” Massara said.
“It seems very unlikely to sign Zirkzee now.”
