Manchester United is looking into the cost of signing Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba during the January transfer window.

Baleba has been on the Red Devils’ radar for some time. They showed interest in the Cameroon international last summer. According to Sky Sports, they have renewed their interest now that the transfer window is open, aiming to understand the financial details of acquiring the 22-year-old.

However, Brighton is likely to reject any offers for Baleba this month. The club intends to keep him at least until summer, when Manchester United may try to make a move again.

Ruben Amorim sees Baleba as an excellent fit to strengthen the midfield, as the player has the right mix of speed, ball recovery, and ball-carrying skills that Amorim needs.

Baleba is currently participating with his national team in the Africa Cup of Nations, which adds to the complexity of any potential transfer this month. The Indomitable Lions have reached the knockout stage and will play South Africa in the Round of 16 on Sunday.

Earlier this month, Baleba mentioned to Sky Sports that he wants to use the tournament to prove he can be one of the world’s top midfielders.

“I want to show my best in this AFCON,” he stated.

“I want to prove that I can be the best midfielder in the world, like Yaya Touré in Africa.

“My main focus during this AFCON is our team, our style, and giving my all on the field.”
