Manchester United are recovering from their recent Champions League loss to Bayern Munich on Wednesday night.

After a 3-2 defeat in the UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-final first leg at Old Trafford, Manchester United’s women aimed to bounce back in Germany, scoring an early goal by Melvine Malard in the 11th minute.

However, Bayern took the lead with two goals in three minutes towards the end of the match, leaving United unable to respond.

This loss ended Marc Skinner’s team’s first run in the tournament, missing out on potential earnings from later stages.

UEFA stated that reaching the semi-finals would have generated an additional £217,750 (€250,000) for United.

If they had defeated either Real Madrid or Barcelona in the semi-finals, leading to a final against Arsenal, Wolfsburg, or Lyon, United could have earned an extra £479,050 (€550,000).

Moreover, a victory against Arsenal or revenge on Lyon or Wolfsburg after their earlier defeat could have brought in £653,250 (€750,000) in prize money for winning the tournament.

As a result, United missed out on at least £479,050 (€550,000), with the maximum possible earning being £653,250 (€750,000) for their debut campaign.

On a positive note, their strong performance in the group stages secured approximately £1,189,000 (€1,365,000) for advancing as far as they did.

The women’s team is now focused on their last three matches of the Women’s Super League season, aiming for a third-place finish to secure a Champions League spot for next season.

Currently, they sit in fourth place, tied on points with Arsenal, who have two games in hand. The challenge ahead is tough, as the team needs to stay sharp and avoid mistakes in the closing matches.
