Manchester United appears to have lost out on its top target, Antoine Semenyo, but this outcome may have positive implications for the club.

United and Manchester City have been competing to sign the Bournemouth winger, with interest intensifying recently.

Both clubs presented their projects and financial offers to attract Semenyo and his representatives.

Chelsea showed interest initially but quickly withdrew, leaving the Manchester clubs in contention.

Ultimately, Semenyo is likely to choose Manchester City as his preferred destination, with a £65 million release clause reportedly set to be triggered.

According to reports from Sam C on X, United maintained their position in negotiations with Bournemouth regarding this clause.

While the clause establishes a fixed fee, discussions can still occur about how the payment will be structured.

As noted by CentreDevils, United aimed to pay the £65 million in several instalments, beginning with an initial payment of £20 million.

Sam C’s update indicates that United wished to avoid disrupting their wage structure to finalize the transfer, opting for an instalment plan instead.

A similar arrangement was reached for Matheus Cunha with Wolverhampton Wanderers, where the fee is to be paid over three years.

However, Antoine Semenyo now seems poised to join Manchester City when the transfer window opens in just over a week.
