With seven matches remaining, Michael Carrick’s Manchester United is set to finish in the top three of the Premier League this season.

Although this isn’t a certainty, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Aston Villa – their closest rivals – are currently underperforming.

Since taking over from Ruben Amorim, Carrick has made a significant impact in his interim role, but whether he will be appointed permanently is still uncertain.

Choosing him full-time might be a smart move, as he understands the dynamics at Old Trafford, but a manager like Luis Enrique, who focuses on winning trophies, could transform the club.

Regardless, Carrick will likely be appreciated for his contributions, especially if he secures a spot in Europe.

Whether or not they qualify for the Champions League in 2026/27, it’s clear that new midfielders are needed.

Casemiro’s experience will be missed, and Kobbie Mainoo – anticipated to sign a new contract – will require a long-term partner.

Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United are among the players being considered by Manchester United, but both would come with a hefty price tag.

A less expensive option might be Orkun Kokcu from Besiktas, who is currently on loan from Benfica but will join Besiktas permanently this summer.

As per Turkish outlet Fanatik, Manchester United scouts were present to observe the 25-year-old during Besiktas’ 2-1 victory over Kasimpasa.

Representatives from Tottenham Hotspur were also there to see Kokcu in action, with Serie A club Inter Milan also showing interest.

At just 25, Inter views Kokcu as a long-term midfield option.

However, the chance to play for United, one of the largest clubs in the world, may attract him to England.

A potential challenge could arise from Besiktas’ position; after his permanent transfer, the club will not entertain offers below €50 million due to his significance.

This season alone, he has recorded 15 goal contributions (7 goals and 8 assists) across all competitions, demonstrating his effectiveness in attack.

What makes the Feyenoord youth product appealing is his versatility in midfield: he’s skilled in tight situations, offers leadership, and excels at passing.

While he may not top Manchester United’s summer wishlist, he represents a solid option at a much lower cost compared to Guimaraes and Tonali.
