Manchester United is actively looking for central midfield players as Ruben Amorim works on a long-term plan for the team. Key focus areas now include energy, ball-handling, and defensive stability in their recruitment efforts.

This focus has intensified recently due to uncertainties about Casemiro’s future, Bruno Fernandes’ injury issues, and questions regarding Kobbie Mainoo’s role and contract status.

Amorim wants to boost the team’s athleticism and intensity, leading United to compile a list of younger midfielders who can excel in a fast-paced setting.

The aim is to find players who can cover significant areas of the pitch, handle pressure, and contribute defensively while maintaining technical skills.

In this context, they have made contact with Jorge Mendes, the agent of Ruben Neves.

United is also looking at several midfield options already familiar with the physical demands of English football.

As a result, the focus is on midfielders who have the right age, tactical expertise, and potential for resale.

Among names like João Gomes, Adam Wharton, and Elliot Anderson, one player has particularly caught the attention of United’s recruitment team.

This player is seen as a flexible No.6/No.8, capable of functioning in both a double pivot and a single defensive role based on the team’s needs.

Carlos Baleba has remained on United’s radar due to his performances, even amidst an inconsistent season.

The 21-year-old has played around 20 matches for Brighton & Hove Albion this season, though he has only completed a full 90 minutes twice, primarily due to managed minutes following an injury.

His fitness issues also appeared during the Africa Cup of Nations, where he had to leave Cameroon’s first match against Gabon at half-time.

Starting behind Bryan Mbeumo, he needed treatment before the break and was substituted for Jean Onana as he didn’t recover in time for the second half.

This highlighted his inconsistent season, with both his club and national team managing his physical condition closely.

Despite this setback, Baleba is highly valued by both the Cameroon national team and Brighton, while United keeps tracking his development as part of their midfield rebuilding efforts.
