Manchester United is looking for a positive start with their new interim manager, Michael Carrick, in their match against Manchester City tomorrow.

Carrick takes over after Ruben Amorim was let go as head coach. The former United midfielder, who won five Premier League titles and a Champions League with the team, will serve in this role until the season ends.

In 2019, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had a similar interim position and performed well enough to be offered a permanent contract.

Carrick aims to lift the team’s spirit and has the opportunity to lead them toward European competition with a total of 40 games this season.

The youth sector of United is also looking for a strong finish to the season.

The FA has announced the draw for the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup, even though the fourth round matches are still to be played.

United will face Derby County in the fourth round on January 23rd, and the winner will then meet either Oxford United or Colchester United away.

Notable fifth round matchups include Chelsea against either Manchester City or Arsenal.

There’s also a possible matchup between Leeds United and Blackburn Rovers, depending on the outcome of their fourth round games.

The fifth round is scheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2026.

Manchester United has won the FA Youth Cup 11 times, with their last victory in the 2021/22 season against Nottingham Forest, where they secured a 3-1 win.

They will need to improve on their last result if they wish to claim the FA Youth Cup again, as they recently lost 3-1 to Everton in the Under-18 Premier League, despite a previous 6-0 win over Birmingham City.
