Kannur: Manuel Sanchez, the head coach of Kannur Warriors FC, has made history in the Super League Kerala. He is now the first coach in the league’s history to guide a team to the semi-finals in two consecutive seasons.
In the first season of the Super League, Sanchez took Kannur Warriors to the semi-finals, but the team was defeated by Force Kochi, ultimately finishing in third place. He has successfully led the team to the semi-final stage again in the second season. Kannur Warriors will now play against Calicut FC in the second semi-final on December 10.
Speaking about the achievement, Manuel Sanchez said, “I am happy to be the first coach to reach the semi-finals in a row, but the real credit belongs to my players and the supporting staff. This entire journey is an achievement for the Kannur Warriors family.”
Sanchez was also the only foreign coach retained for the second season of the Super League. As a player, he started his career with Racing Ferrol, a third-division club in Spain, and later played for prominent La Liga clubs like Celta de Vigo and Osasuna. He began his coaching career in 2009 and has managed teams including Sporting Gijón, Sporting Gijón B, and the second-division club Real Ávila.
