The 18-year-old Spanish talent, who previously came through Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy, had limited game time at Chelsea last season but still managed to impress. Guiu scored six goals in just 16 appearances, showing flashes of brilliance that clearly caught Sunderland’s eye.
The newly promoted Championship side confirmed the deal in a statement:
“Sunderland AFC are delighted to announce the signing of Marc Guiu, who joins the Stadium of Light on loan for the 2025-26 season. The striker arrives on Wearside from Chelsea after being part of the Blues’ squad that won the FIFA Club World Cup last month.”

Guiu joined Chelsea from Barcelona for €6 million but found opportunities limited due to strong competition in the squad. With this loan move, both Sunderland and Chelsea will be hoping he gets the minutes he needs to continue his development.
Sunderland fans will be eager to see what the Granollers-born forward can bring to the club as they look to make their mark in the new season.
