"This is the collapse of La Liga" - Marco van Basten shares his thoughts on the Barcelona vs Villarreal match being moved to the USA
A renowned football figure has expressed his dissatisfaction.
This goes against tradition.
Details: Marco van Basten, a 60-year-old former striker for Ajax, Milan, and the Netherlands national team, has voiced his concerns about UEFA’s choice to hold the Villarreal vs Barcelona match in the United States:
“Why is Villarreal vs Barcelona being played in the USA? What is happening? Is this a joke?
IT’S ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. And it feels like cheating! This represents the complete downfall of La Liga for me.
UEFA NEEDS TO INTERVENE.” Van Basten stated.
The three-time Ballon d’Or winner fears this decision will undermine the rich football traditions established over the years.
During his career, Van Basten became famous for his achievements with Milan, where he won two Champions Leagues, two UEFA Super Cups, three Scudetti, two Italian Super Cups, and two Intercontinental Cups. He secured the Ballon d’Or three times, in 1988, 1989, and 1992, and also claimed a gold medal at the 1988 European Championship with the Dutch national team.
