Marco Verratti Faces His Toughest Challenge Yet

Pescara has officially parted ways with Vincenzo Vivarini following a 2-0 defeat to Monza in their 12th Serie B match. This loss keeps the team in second-to-last place with only eight points. Since the season began, the Abruzzo club has managed just one win, alongside five draws and six losses, holding the league’s worst defense with 25 goals conceded. In an official statement, the club confirmed Vivarini’s dismissal and thanked him and his staff for their professionalism. They also announced that training would resume in the afternoon. This marks a challenging start for Marco Verratti, who recently returned to Pescara as a managing partner to help revitalize the club where he began his career, only to find the season already taking a difficult turn.

In an effort to turn things around, management has appointed Giorgio Gorgone to take charge of the first team. This will be Gorgone’s first experience not only as Pescara’s head coach but also in Serie B. Ahead of the trip to Catanzaro for the 13th round, which ended in a 3-3 draw, he expressed a fighting spirit. He stated that he found a group that is “athletically fit” but mentally affected by recent heavy defeats. While not judging Vivarini’s work, he promised a more intense approach and a Pescara that would be “aggressive and courageous,” acknowledging that establishing his style in just one week would be challenging. Gorgone’s primary aim is to achieve an immediate revival to climb closer to safety, urging his players to “fight, sweat, and regain the hunger” necessary to improve their situation. The point gained in Catanzaro offers some hope.
