Marcus Rashford’s performance at Barcelona differs greatly from his time at Manchester United. The 28-year-old English forward is currently on loan to Barcelona for the 2025/26 season and is thriving at the club.
Rashford is getting regular starts and has gained the trust of his manager, Hansi Flick. This season, he has played as the Barcelona No.9 and has proven his worth in the team.
So far, Rashford has made 23 appearances for Barcelona. In comparison, Robert Lewandowski, Barcelona’s main striker, has played in 17 matches. Ferran Torres and Dani Olmo have appeared in 21 and 17 matches, respectively.
Rashford has impressively scored seven goals and provided nine assists in those 23 matches. Before his loan to Barcelona, he scored 138 goals in 426 matches for Manchester United and had a brief loan spell at Aston Villa.
While Rashford doesn’t get to exploit counterattacks as much in Barcelona’s system, he has adapted well to a more possession-based style. He effectively contributes to short passes with his teammates and still enjoys the moments when he can utilize his pace on counterattacks.
His impact in Spanish football is notable. Returning to Manchester United at the end of the season may be challenging, especially considering his strained relationship with manager Ruben Amorim. If Amorim leaves the club, however, Rashford’s situation could change.
Barcelona holds a €30 million buy option for Rashford, but his performance will determine if he stays beyond this season.
With many attacking options available, standing out at Barcelona is not easy. Rashford has managed to rise to the challenge so far.
