Franco Mastantuono played his last match in a River shirt. The 17-year-old will join Real Madrid, who are still alive in the 2025 Club World Cup. The left-footed player has already said goodbye to the club with a post on his social networks and is close to joining the ranks of Xabi Alonso.
The Spanish side allowed the player to face the international competition in the Millonario shirt. After his elimination in the group stage in Seattle, the question remains: can he continue to participate in the tournament with the Merengue squad?
From a regulatory point of view, Mastantuono cannot play in the Club World Cup with Real Madrid. Although the inclusion of a new player is allowed from the round of 16 onwards, article 24.8 states that “no player may play matches for more than one participating club”.
Furthermore, it should be remembered that the player will remain a Millonario player until 14 August, when he will turn 18. This rules out any possibility of seeing the youngster in the white shirt before then.
What Mastantuono said about his departure from River Plate
Hours before the match against Inter, Mastantuono spoke to DAZN about his departure from River and his subsequent arrival at Real Madrid. “I’ve always said it and it’s not just a joke: I have a great love for the club and I’m always going to give my life for these colours,” he said.
“Any football player dreams of playing for River and Real Madrid. Something unique is happening to me and I’m grateful for what football and life are giving me,” said the youngster, adding: “It’s always been a dream. So it was a challenge in my life that changes, that starts to be different, that is in another place. That’s a very nice challenge for me.
