Roma forward Matías Soulé may represent Italy if he does not receive a call-up from Argentina.
Details: According to LaRoma24.it, Soulé’s agent, Martín Guastadisegno, stated that Soulé has dual citizenship—Italian and Argentine—and can switch national teams under FIFA rules if he has not played for another senior national team.
The agent highlighted Soulé’s ambition to play in a World Cup:
“Matías is the only young Argentine who hasn’t played for the national team yet. He’s becoming a leader at Roma and deserves a call-up. His dream is to play at the World Cup,” Guastadisegno said.
He also added:
“If he doesn’t get an invitation from Argentina soon, the situation remains open. Matías could legally play for Italy.”
Earlier, Soulé had an opportunity to join Italy when Spalletti was coach, but he opted to wait for a call from Argentina. Now, without an invitation from the Albiceleste, he could change his international path.
Under Gasperini’s guidance, Soulé has scored three goals and made two assists.
