Atlanta United FC owner Arthur Blank has appointed Mauricio Culebro as president of the Major League Soccer (MLS) club and the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) franchise, which will start in 2028.
“We are thrilled to welcome Mauricio to Atlanta and our family of businesses,” Blank stated in a press release from AMB Sports and Entertainment, which includes the Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta United, the Atlanta Drive of the TGL indoor golf league, and Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
As the search progressed, Blank noted that Culebro’s extensive experience and clear vision have made him an ideal choice for leading Atlanta United and the upcoming NWSL team.
Culebro previously served for five years as president of Tigres UANL and was the chief operating officer of the Mexican Football Federation.
Despite being new to MLS, Blank expressed confidence in Culebro’s ability to revitalize Atlanta United and oversee the launch of the NWSL team.
Additionally, Culebro was involved in planning for Mexico’s role in the upcoming World Cup.
Culebro responded, saying, “I am honored to join AMBSE’s leadership team and be part of an organization with such a strong culture. I look forward to applying my experience and commitment to Atlanta United and NWSL Atlanta 2028, working alongside a talented team to create projects that our fans can be proud of.”
