Maxime Lopez may be joining the Algerian national team soon. In an interview with Canal +, the Paris FC midfielder indicated that he is open to wearing the Green jersey for the Africa Cup of Nations and the 2026 World Cup. “Of course, if I am called up for the Algerian team, I will go. My mother is Algerian,” he said, dismissing suggestions that he only wants to join the Fennecs for this year’s major tournaments.
“People will say, ‘Yes, he’s an opportunist, there are the AFCON and the World Cup this year.’ But I believe that even in a season without AFCON or World Cup, if I had been called, I would have gone. I am a competitor, and I want to play for the national team. I’ve always talked about the French team because I’ve never been contacted by the Algerian team at that level. Recently, they reached out to see where I stood. We’ll see what happens in the future,” added the 27-year-old midfielder. The invitation is out.
