What the team’s biggest star thinks.
France is off to a strong start in their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign, marking Didier Deschamps’ last term as head coach. Speculation about who will replace him is growing, and Kylian Mbappé has shared his thoughts.
Details: In an interview with L’Équipe, the star player was asked about the potential appointment of Zinedine Zidane. He mentioned that no one would be against such a decision, and if Zidane were to lead the team, it would be excellent. However, he noted that he would also be fine with another coach.
Quote: “Zidane as the next coach of France? Nobody would say no. Only he can say no. If it’s him, great! If it’s someone else, that’s fine too. He’s the only person in French football history who has nearly every right,” Mbappé stated.
France won their first two qualifiers, beating Ukraine 2-0 and Iceland 2-1. Next up, they will play Azerbaijan at home, followed by an away match against Iceland. Winning these games would secure Les Bleus’ spot in the World Cup.
Reminder: Mbappé has also expressed which French player he would like to see join Real Madrid.
