Noussair Mazraoui is representing Morocco in the African Cup of Nations after being selected for the tournament.
The defender, who also plays for Manchester United, has been part of the national team since 2018, making 38 appearances and scoring two goals.
He has participated in all four of Morocco’s matches in the tournament, as the team seeks to emulate the success of the 2023 champions, Ivory Coast.
In one match against Zambia, he received praise from Moroccan media for his strong defensive performance during the team’s 3-0 win.
In another game today against Tanzania, he started and played 76 minutes before being substituted.
During those minutes, the 28-year-old made two tackles, one clearance, and recovered the ball once.
Offensively, Mazraoui completed a successful dribble and made 17 passes into the final third, aiding the team’s advancement.
The Moroccan media has been highlighting both his individual performance and the team’s overall effort.
Al Mountakhab remarked that Morocco “faced significant challenges against the Tanzanian team.”
Le Matin described the victory as “hard fought.”
Additionally, Morocco World News noted that Mazraoui was “solid,” contributing to a clean sheet for the defense.
With favorable reactions from the media regarding the defender’s and team’s performance, attention is now shifting to the quarter-finals against Cameroon.
In this upcoming match, Mazraoui may encounter fellow Manchester United player Bryan Mbeumo, who is currently representing Cameroon in the tournament.
