AEL Limassol has officially announced the signing of Mexican goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa as he aims for a spot in the 2026 World Cup. The announcement included a social media video showcasing highlights from his career, accompanied by the message: “Strength. Reflexes. Legacy. Coming soon to Limassol.”

At 40 years old, Ochoa will compete in his seventh league, having previously played in Mexico, Spain, France, Portugal, Belgium, and Italy. This move keeps him in the running for national team selections as he targets a record sixth World Cup appearance.

AEL Limassol, founded 94 years ago, last won the league title in the 2011-2012 season and is currently positioned seventh in the league table with three points after two matches. The team is under the guidance of coach Paolo Tramezzani.

Ochoa follows Raúl Gudiño, another Mexican goalkeeper who played in Cyprus, notably appearing in the UEFA Champions League with APOEL in 2017. He is expected to start training soon as he embarks on this new chapter in the Mediterranean.
