Argentina’s captain, Lionel Messi, has indicated that he might play in the 2026 World Cup, raising fresh hopes about his international future.
In an interview with NBC Nightly News, the 38-year-old player gave this hint. Messi said that he wants to play for his country again but will make a final decision by next year.
Messi explained that playing in another World Cup would be an incredible experience. However, he added that his participation would depend on his physical fitness during Inter Miami’s pre-season training in 2026.
The Argentine player also clarified that he feels motivated to play for the national team again after leading Argentina to victory in Qatar in 2022.
He admitted that while being able to defend the title would be a dream, his age and fitness will play a decisive role in his decision.
Currently, Argentina is in excellent form under coach Lionel Scaloni and is in a comfortable position in the World Cup qualifying matches. Messi, who continues to perform well in Major League Soccer, plays an important part in Argentina’s plans.
