Lionel Messi is expected to play for the Argentina national team in their friendly match against Puerto Rico. The game is scheduled for Tuesday at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale. Messi was unavailable for the previous match against Venezuela because he was playing for his club, Inter Miami.
Coach Lionel Scaloni has confirmed that the team captain has returned to training. The 38-year-old put on an impressive display for Inter Miami over the weekend. He scored two goals in the club’s 4-0 win against Atlanta United in an MLS game. Scaloni also noted that Messi’s fitness will be assessed before a final decision is made on his participation.
The match was originally planned to take place in Chicago but was moved to Fort Lauderdale for security and logistical reasons. This change of venue will give the superstar a home-ground advantage.
