Viktor Gyokeres has faced criticism after Arsenal’s goalless draw with Liverpool.

The Swedish forward was brought in to solve the club’s scoring issues, but he has struggled to find his form this season.

With only seven goals in 24 matches, his performance has fallen short of expectations for a player valued over £60 million. This return is inadequate, especially considering his transfer fee.

“We signed him because we believed he could perform,” the manager stated in a press conference. “Viktor has the potential, and we trust he will step up.”

There was a lack of optimism around the Emirates after Gyokeres failed to shine against Liverpool.

The Gunners began well, with Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice delivering good crosses into the box.

However, Gyokeres seemed hesitant. Questions about his movement surfaced again during the match.

When asked why Gyokeres didn’t capitalize on opportunities, Arteta noted that other players didn’t always pass to him.

“He was in good positions, but sometimes the ball didn’t come. Normally, we aim to get into the six-yard box with the ball at our feet, leading to goals,” he said via HaytersTV. “That didn’t happen, and it’s an area we need to improve on, especially after that second half.”

In response to whether Gyokeres was progressing, Arteta responded confidently: “Yes!”

Concerns over Gyokeres’ performance at Arsenal

Gyokeres has struggled to adapt at Arsenal since his arrival.

While aware of the challenges he faced, his disappointing goal tally likely surprised him.

During the match against Liverpool, he found himself in favorable positions and made good runs, but teammates often overlooked him. This lack of connection added to the frustration around his play.

However, the issue is not solely about service. Gyokeres must also improve his positioning within the box, which has not met expectations.
