Minerva Academy’s achievement of winning three titles during its recent European tour has been hailed as a “new beginning for Indian football” by Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, who honored the players on Thursday.
The Under-14/15 team, comprising 22 players, toured Europe in July and August and secured trophies at the Gothia Cup in Sweden, the Dana Cup in Denmark, and the Norway Cup in Norway.
Mandaviya highlighted, “This marks a new beginning for Indian football as we strive for greater success internationally.”
He emphasized the need for a stronger focus on sports science, nutrition, and mental strength for these young athletes, suggesting collaboration with psychologists to enhance their performance and maintain confidence and passion for the sport.
These tournaments are among the most respected youth football competitions worldwide. Minerva Academy FC’s team dominated their matches, remaining unbeaten in 26 games and scoring an impressive 295 goals while suffering few defeats.
Konthoujam Yohenba Singh (Best Player, Gothia Cup) and Huidrom Tony (Best Player, Dana Cup) also received individual accolades.
The team faced various youth clubs from South America and Europe during their tour.
