Mircea Lucescu, the head coach of Romania’s national team, has made history as the oldest coach of a national team in world football.
On September 5, his team played a friendly match against Canada and lost 0-3. At that time, Lucescu was 80 years, 1 month, and 7 days old, surpassing the previous record held by Roque Máspoli, who coached Uruguay in 1997 at the age of 80 years, 1 month, and 4 days.
In August 2024, Lucescu returned to Romania after 28 years and took over the national team again. His next match is scheduled for September 9 against Cyprus.
