Mohammed Kudus names his pick for the greatest football manager

Tottenham Hotspur winger Mohammed Kudus has shared his choice for the greatest football manager ever, skipping over well-known winners like Pep Guardiola, Jose Mourinho, Sir Alex Ferguson, and Carlo Ancelotti.

The Ghanaian international, who transferred to Spurs from West Ham United for £55 million last summer, made this statement in a video interview with TNT Sports. When asked about the best managers in football history, Kudus was quick to reveal his answer. He stated (h/t Yen News):

“I like Klopp, so I’ll go with Klopp.”

Jurgen Klopp’s nine-year term at Liverpool, which ended in May 2024, turned the club into a powerful contender in Europe. He led the Reds to their sixth Champions League title in 2019, winning against Tottenham 2-0 in Madrid, and ended a 30-year wait for a Premier League victory in 2020.

His achievements at Anfield included the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, two League Cups, the FIFA Club World Cup, and the UEFA Super Cup. Klopp also changed Liverpool’s play style with his high-pressure gegenpressing system, making the team genuine title contenders and regular Champions League participants.

Despite these successes, many experts think Klopp could have achieved more domestically. Manchester City, under Guardiola, often limited Liverpool’s victories, with the Reds finishing second despite remarkable point totals. They gained 97 points in the 2018-19 season but ended up behind City, which had 98 points. Klopp also led Liverpool to three Champions League finals, winning one and losing two.

Kudus’s respect for Klopp seems to stem from his talent in developing players and establishing a unique style of play. The former Borussia Dortmund coach built two successful Bundesliga teams before achieving similar results at Liverpool, often outperforming rivals with smaller budgets.

Since joining Tottenham, Kudus has made an impact, scoring three goals and providing six assists in his initial matches under Thomas Frank. His technical skill, dribbling, and direct approach have made him an important part of Frank’s attacking strategy.

Klopp’s exit from Liverpool marked a significant change, with Arne Slot now expected to carry on his legacy. Many fans still remember Klopp’s passionate celebrations, his strong connection with supporters, and the unforgettable moments at Anfield that highlighted his time with the club.
