It all came down to finances.
Monchi played an important part in creating the Aston Villa team that reached the quarterfinals of last season’s UEFA Champions League. However, he has now left the club, and the reason has been revealed.
Details: Reports from The Athletic indicate that the Spanish sporting director decided to leave Aston Villa due to financial and sporting challenges.
Previously reported, Villa is close to finalizing Monchi’s successor. The club’s leadership is reportedly considering former Real Sociedad sporting director Roberto Olabe.
At present, the English club is working on an immediate contract termination with Monchi and plans to discuss terms with the 57-year-old Olabe.
Reminder: Villa has had a tough start to the new Premier League season, earning only three points from their first five matches and currently finds themselves in the relegation zone.
