Reports indicate that Monterrey’s women’s team is facing tough times after a significant 4-0 loss to Tigres in the 45th Clásico Regio Femenil. This defeat raises concerns about coach Amelia Valverde’s future. The game at the Estadio Universitario affected their rankings and sparked doubts regarding the team’s path forward.
The Costa Rican coach seemed visibly upset after the match and expressed her remorse to the fans. “The driving force of this team is its fans… not just their expectations, but everything related to Rayadas… Today, I can only say sorry because this isn’t what the fans deserve,” Valverde stated.
Rayadas have been struggling beyond this latest loss. They have secured only one win in their last five matches, which was a 3-1 victory over Santos, alongside heavy defeats against Cruz Azul and Tigres, both ending in 4-0. They also had draws against Chivas and Juárez. With 16 points, Monterrey has fallen to eighth place, raising serious concerns about making the playoffs.
Valverde’s position is now in doubt, despite having signed a contract extension in March that goes until 2026. If the board decides to make a change, Monterrey would have to compensate her. Currently, both the coach and her team are under increasing pressure as the season devolves into a crisis.
